I started this blog as a means of documenting the
trials and tribulations fun and joy of training for my first marathon, as well as a source of much-needed motivation. According to my training plan, I run three times a week; this currently means one short run of about 4/5 miles, one medium run of about 6/7 miles, and one long run (rough distance: distinctly uncomfortable). Whilst this didn’t seem like very much to me at first, it saw my parents to the finish line of Brighton Marathon last year – so here’s hoping it works for me too! I’ve also been meaning to add in a weekly speed session somewhere, though that’s proving rather difficult to follow through on.
I’d love to be able to say that I’m writing this post after a sub-30-minute, 4-mile run, as opposed to saying I’m procrastinating by writing this post instead of running 4 miles in the (extreme) cold and the dark, but I’d be lying. I’d also love to be able to say that I didn’t skip a running club speed session this evening in favour of sitting here in front of the laptop in my boyfriend’s hoodie, with a big mug of vanilla chai latte .. But, again, not so true.
However! Despite this week’s lack of running (which will be rectified with a half marathon on Sunday, if my body decides that it can run that far – yet to be determined!), I consider this to be productive procrastination (a bigger oxymoron has never been uttered), as I decided when starting this blog that I would take some time each week to reflect on the wonderful things in my life, to look back at when things get tough, or I have a bad run – which happens rather often!
So without further ado (read: procrastination), here are ten things that have made me smile recently:
♡ Managing my first 2hr+ run and not feeling like death the next day.
♡ Speaking of runs .. David Beckham running in his undies. (You’re welcome).
♡ Starting a new job in a small office full of lovely, wonderful people!
♡ A relaxed office dress policy (no more pencil skirts! Or heels!)
♡ A long Saturday morning natter with Mum.
♡ The internet’s cutest kitten fail EVER!
♡ Stumbling upon a gorgeous designer jacket reduced from £130 – £39, in my size.
♡ The warm and friendly atmosphere at the running club.
♡ Glittery nail polish equalling bruised toenail: 0, me: 1.
♡ An unexpected reminder of a long-running joke between friends.
Happy running! 😀
